Microsoft exam pricingAI-900 proves vocabulary, not capability. It clears HR filters on Microsoft-aligned graduate schemes and does very little anywhere else; pair it with a small Azure OpenAI or Cognitive Services build to make it count.
In context
This cert in isolation tells you very little. Here is where it actually sits. The pathways that use it, and the roles it realistically supports.
- Career switchers signalling Azure-AI direction
AI-900 is the Azure AI fundamentals cert and it's a 60-minute literacy exam, not a credential that earns interviews. The syllabus is vocabulary: what Cognitive Services do, what Azure OpenAI is for, what responsible AI principles look like in slideware. Take it as a one-evening warm-up before AI-102 or DP-100, or as proof of basic literacy for a Microsoft-aligned graduate scheme. Skip it as a standalone cert; recruiters reading it on its own assume you haven't yet built anything. A small Azure OpenAI prototype on GitHub does more work than the badge.
