AZ-400 is the Azure DevOps Engineer Expert and it's the cert that matters when an Azure shop is genuinely running CI/CD on Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions against Azure infrastructure, and matters very little otherwise. The syllabus covers pipelines, IaC with Bicep or Terraform, release strategies, and the security and observability layers around them. Take it once you've already shipped pipelines in anger and the next move is platform engineer or DevOps lead inside a Microsoft estate. Skip it self-funded if your team runs GitLab, Jenkins, or a non-Azure cloud. The exam rewards Azure-native tooling specifically, and the knowledge doesn't port cleanly. Terraform Associate plus a GitHub Actions portfolio outperforms it outside Microsoft houses.
