  • Equivalent seniority signal to a CISSP or CISM in governance-heavy hiring. Those audiences read CCNP Security as technical, not strategic

Firewall platform conflation. Candidates list CCNP Security on CVs applying to Palo Alto or Fortinet shops without flagging the platform gap. Shortlisted, then failed at first technical screen on NGFW policy constructs that don't map to FTD.

CCNP Security is a tightly scoped cert for one type of person: someone already operating Cisco firewalls, ISE, or ASA in a network or network-security team, who wants the senior credential. Outside that context it's a poor investment. Pure security teams want CISSP or hands-on red/blue certs. Cloud-leaning shops barely register Cisco anymore. The cert itself is fair and the SCOR core exam genuinely tests Cisco-specific security depth. Take it if you're in a Cisco-shop network security role and want to move from operator to architect. If you're a generalist security pro, your money is better spent elsewhere.
