The MS-102-as-IT-manager-substitute trap. Administrators pursue the cert expecting it to read as IT leadership readiness, then sit promotion panels where the assessment weighs vendor management, budget ownership and team leadership reps the cert does not evidence.

MS-102 is the Microsoft 365 Administrator cert and it's the cert that actually matters for M365 platform admin roles in Microsoft-aligned enterprises. The syllabus covers Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, security and compliance at admin level. Take it once you've spent at least a year inside an M365 tenant in anger and the next move is platform lead, M365 architect, or modern workplace consultant. Skip it as a generalist cloud cert. The vendor lock-in is total, and the badge means nothing in AWS or GCP-aligned hiring.
